Regional Security Adviser

About the Opportunity

There is an expected vacancy for a Regional Security Adviser to join the Secretariat. This job exists to provide policy advice on trends and threats relating to regional security issues in the region.

 Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Policy Analysis and Advice;
  • Regional Security Coordination, Cooperation and Information Sharing;
  • High Level Partnerships and Advocacy; and
  • Team Performance & Leadership.

 Applicants should have an advanced degree in politics, legal, security or relevant discipline with at least 7 years’ experience within the required field. Candidates should also have in-depth understanding of geo-political, political governance, security, legal and law enforcement issues within the Pacific region. Applicants with experience managing or leading teams with the strong analytical skills to master new material quickly, working with minimal direction and to tight deadlines would be essential. 

 About the Benefits

The appointment carries a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The starting salary will be in the range of SDR41,064 to SDR46,198 per annum. At the 1 July 2017 exchange rate this salary range was equivalent to FJD117,426 to FJD132,107. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.

The Forum’s administrative arm is the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Suva, Fiji. It acts as the Secretariat for Forum-related events, implements decisions by the Leaders, facilitates the delivery of development assistance to member states, and undertakes the political and legal mandates of Forum meetings. 

The Forum Secretariat is also mandated to coordinate the implementation of the Framework for Pacific Regionalism.
